Privacy Policy
Effective Date: January 22, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Modify ("we", "our", or "the extension") handles your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
By using Modify, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, do not install or use this extension.
2. Information We Collect
Information Stored Locally:
Modify stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's local storage API:
- API Credentials: Your API keys for third-party AI services (OpenRouter, Anthropic Claude, or OpenAI GPT-4)
- User Scripts: Your custom modifications including prompts, generated JavaScript code, and target URL patterns
- Groups: Organizational data for grouping multiple websites together
- Preferences: Settings such as theme preference (light/dark), voice input language, and API provider selection
- Session State: Temporary data about your current session to maintain UI state
Information We Do NOT Collect:
- We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to our servers
- We do not track your browsing history or behavior
- We do not use analytics, cookies, or tracking technologies
- We do not collect information about the websites you visit or modify
3. How We Use Your Information
All data is stored and processed locally on your device for the following purposes:
- Core Functionality: To save and execute your custom website modifications
- Persistence: To remember your settings and modifications across browser sessions
- Code Generation: To send your prompts to your chosen AI provider and receive generated code
- Organization: To manage groups and apply modifications to multiple websites
Your data never leaves your device except when you explicitly send prompts to third-party AI services.
4. Third-Party Services
When you use the code generation feature, your prompts are sent directly from your browser to your selected AI provider:
- OpenRouter: OpenRouter Privacy Policy
- Anthropic (Claude): Anthropic Privacy Policy
- OpenAI (GPT-4): OpenAI Privacy Policy
These services may collect and process your prompts according to their own privacy policies. We recommend reviewing their policies and terms of service before providing your API key. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of these third-party services.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. Since all data is stored locally on your device, we have no access to your information and cannot share it with third parties.
You may choose to export your modifications as JSON files and share them with others. This is entirely optional and under your control.
6. Chrome Permissions
Modify requires the following Chrome permissions to function:
- activeTab: Allows the extension to access and modify the currently active tab when you click the extension icon. This is necessary to inject your custom code into webpages.
- storage: Enables the extension to save your modifications, settings, and preferences locally on your device using Chrome's storage API.
- scripting: Permits the extension to inject and execute your custom JavaScript code on websites you've chosen to modify.
These permissions are used exclusively for the extension's core functionality and are never used to collect or transmit data without your explicit action.
7. Data Security
We take the security of your data seriously:
- All data is stored using Chrome's secure storage mechanisms
- Your API keys are stored locally and never transmitted to our servers
- We recommend using API keys with appropriate rate limits and spending restrictions
- When importing modifications from others, review the code before enabling it
- Consider regularly backing up your modifications using the export feature
However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
8. Your Data Rights
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control:
- Access: View all your stored modifications and settings through the extension interface
- Modification: Edit or update any stored data at any time
- Deletion: Remove individual modifications or use the "Clear All Data" option in settings to delete everything
- Export: Download your modifications as JSON files for backup or sharing
- Uninstall: Removing the extension will delete all locally stored data
9. Children's Privacy
Modify is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided information to this extension, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
10. International Data Transfers
Since all data is stored locally on your device, there are no international data transfers by the extension itself. However, when you send prompts to third-party AI services, those services may process your data in different countries according to their own policies.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this Privacy Policy.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the extension after any modifications to the Privacy Policy will constitute your acknowledgment of the modifications and your consent to abide by the modified Privacy Policy.
